World Heritage Of Nepal
Heritage is practices that are handed down from the past by tradition and ofcourse generation to generation. They are the evidence of the past, such as historical sites, buildings, which are considered in a group as the inheritance of present day society. The heritage reflects art, cultural and tradition of the country. Heritages are valuable and thus included in the list of the world heritage site by UNESCO.
Nepal is a small mountain landlocked kingdom in the world. Nepal is a country blessed with such astonishing and unique sites together with various culture and natural heritage. Even it has the area of 147,181 sq. km., Nepal holds 10 places as UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization) as ‘World Heritage Sites’. UNESCO has listed the most important natural and cultural heritages of the world on the basis of their significance. While making a list of world heritage, the heritages are selected and examined on the criteria of their historical, natural and cultural significances, their artistic value, their rare quality and their unique characteristic which identify the nation. There are 830 properties of world in World Heritage List as cultural and natural heritage having outstanding universal value. And among them there are 644 cultural heritage sites, 162 natural heritage sites and 24 mixed properties.
There are altogether ten World Heritage Sites in Nepal, seven of which are in Kathmandu itself. The list includes both natural as well as cultural sites. The Kathmandu valley is a treasure trove of Nepalese culture protected and developed since a long, offering the unique attractions. The important side of the culture is its architectural heritage which is represented in the numerous monuments included and preserved within the seven monument zones in the Kathmandu Valley Heritage Site all within a radius of 20km. The valley is full of wonderful creations in various shapes and forms of art and architecture, extending to small stone or a bronze statue. The wood carvings of temples and houses are famous throughout the world. The beautiful temples, monasteries, stupas or Chaityas, shrines, palaces, monuments and every other architectural wonder of the valley are glorious cultural treasures of Nepal as well as a heritage of the whole of mankind. Nepalese architectural heritage is represented in the unique design of built structures like the pagoda, Shikhara-style temples and every other structure
