Roadways: Raxaul is the main entry point from India to Nepal. There is a boradgauze railway line till Raxaul which is being extended to Amlekhgunj Birgunj is some 175kms from Kathmandu which is soon to be connected by a fastrack road reducing the time to travel to Birgunj from Kathmandu to just an hour.

Airport: Simara Airport is 8Kms north from Birgunj, which is regularly connected to Kathmandu by flights.
