Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking

Situated to the East of one of the most famous trekking destinations in Nepal, The Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal Base Camp trek is one of the off beaten trekking trails. A recently started trail, the Mardi Base Camp trek isn’t as crowded as its other counter parts. Nonetheless, the trail is amazing and the view from the Base camp is absolutely stunning. The trail takes you to a very close proximity of Machchapuchhre, almost as if it’s a stone throw away.
How to go to Mardi Himal
The gateway to Mardi Base Camp, the usual one is at Kadey, about 30 km from Pokhara on the Pokhara-Baglung highway. From Kadey, the trekking trail starts, with a small decent down from a narrow alley on the side of the local shops on the highway, the trail goes through few houses and climbs up a small village. From there about an hour or so of walk will take you to Australian Camp. Getting a bus to Baglung from Kathmandu would be the best thing rather than getting one to Pokhara and changing another to Kadey.
An alternative way to do the trek would be to get a bus to Pokhara, drop off at Pokhara and get a jeep/bus to a place called Shiddhing. The trek will be one day shorter this way. From Shidding, you can directly reach the high camp in a single day. Where are if you take Kadey route, it’s only on the 2nd day of the trek that you will reach High Camp.
If you take the Kadey route, then on the first day you’d reach Australian Camp. Taking into account that you took an early morning microbus to Baglung and get off at Kaadey and start the trek. If you reach Kaadey early, then you might as well reach Pitam Deurali. If not, the next day you’d start from Australian Camp and a good stop for that day would be Low Camp. About 7-8 hours of walk will take you to Low Camp from Australian Camp. Forest camp would be an ideal place for the lunch.
The next day, with all the ease you have you will reach High camp in less than 3 hours. It’s a gradual climb up to the high camp. The next morning about 3-4 hours walk and then you reach the amazing Mardi Himal Base Camp.
If you decide to take the Siddhing route, then you skip Australian Camp, Pitam Deurali and Forest Camp, you directly reach Low Camp on the first day, and if you start early in the morning then you can definitely reach High Camp as well.
How much will it cost for Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking
Let’s talk about transportation first, the microbus/bus will charge you Nrs 550 till Kadey. In case of Siddhing, the cost if I remember correctly was Nrs 200 from Pokhara and vice versa.
Apart from that an estimation of Nrs 1000 a day would be more than enough for the whole trekking.
Summarized Itinerary for Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking
Day 1: Kathmandu-Pokhara-Kadey-
Day 2: Australian Camp- Pitam Deurali- Forest Camp-Low Camp
Day 3: Low Camp- High Camp
Day 4: High Camp- Base Camp – Siddhing
Day 5: Siddhing-Pokhara-Kathmandu
Individual changes can be made along that itinerary depending upon the route you’d want to take. I just made a suggestive itinerary for everyone, that’s how I’d recommend it!
