The lake city of Pokhara in west Nepal will host the 2015 Paragliding World Cup and preparations are underway to successfully accomplish the event. "As our target is to host the important event of adventure tourism in Nepal, we are conducting several preparatory competitions from here onward," Rajesh Bamjan, chairperson of Nepal Air-sports Association, was quoted as saying by Karobar daily.

In this connection, a five-day Open Paragliding Competition was organized from February 28 to March 4 in Pokhara, in which more than 120 pilots from USA, UK, China, India, Japan and Russia, among others, have participated. "Participants are from more than 20 countries. The event will promote tourism as well as help develop adventure sports in Nepal, "Bamjan added.

The event is being organized in close collaboration with the Federation Aeronautic International, which is responsible for all major international paragliding events.

Paragliding will take off from Sarangkot, a hilltop above Fewa Lake and will have competitions in seven categories, including best spot-landing, best raft-landing and the best acrobats.
