Yak Attack-The ultimate test of your endurance
Nepal has now been the one of the best destinations for Adventure tourism. From bungy jump to
paragliding around the valleys to scuba diving and high altitude trekking, one has a multitude of
adventurous options to explore in Nepal.
Started in 2007, Yak Attack is now the hardest and most extreme mountain bike race at one of the highest altitude in the world. The 10 day race around the Annapurna region originally began with 3 international mountain bikers, 1 international runner, 7 Nepali mountain bikers and 1 Nepali runner. The event has now evolved to a world class challenge in the eight years and Mountain Bike UK has acknowledged this as the fifth hardest race in the world, not because of the distance or technicality, but because of the altitude, snow, hike-a-bike, temperature extremes, and other unforeseeable challenges.
Passing by the world’s most pristine sceneries and most adventurous route, every rider has to undergo tough test of his/her mettle. Completing this challenge is not just about reaching the finish line but also pushing yourself to the extreme limits in one of the most spectacular natural arenas on Earth.
The next edition of YakAttack Nepal will be held in September 2015 and registration will begin on 18th September as per their website. In this race of around 400kms, participants will have to cross 8 stages encompassing some of the extremes of temperatures, altitude and terrain. Starting at Sivapuri in Kathmandu the race ends in Tatopani having climbed from the lowest point (300m) to the snow covered Thorong La Pass (5416m) and temperature ranging from +30c to -15c. This is why the race is a test of skill and endurance on the mountain bike.
Every year, this event has seen a huge attraction of adventure lovers from the world over with enthusiastic participation from current world ranking mountain bikers, to ex Tour-de-France and olympic cyclists, to professional explorers. The next edition of YakAttack, apart from being the most adventurous races on Earth, will surely establish a new horizon of adventure tourism in Nepal.
We wish them all the very best for their efforts in bringing such events to Nepal.
